Camden-Wyoming is 10 minutes. Smyrna is 15-20 minutes. Delaware Route 1 and US-13 are the main north-south arteries. Going north reaches Smyrna, then Wilmington (60 miles, ~1 hour). Going south reaches the Delaware beaches (60-90 min). Going west on US-301 / Route 8 reaches the Bay Bridge into Maryland and connects to the inner NCR (~90 min to DC). There is no Metro or commuter rail — Dover residents drive everywhere. Beach traffic on Route 1 and NASCAR weekends are the two predictable gridlock events worth planning around.

Dover sits in the geographic center of the Delmarva Peninsula. For dual-military couples, the closest other installations are JB McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (75 miles north in NJ), NSF Indian Head (110 miles southwest in MD), and the broader NCR cluster (90+ miles west). Modest 2026 BAH growth at Dover/Rehoboth — Kent County housing remains well below the Mid-Atlantic average.
